Eco-MICAIA Limited is the social enterprise member of the MICAIA family, committed to MICAIA’s mission of working to enable all people in Mozambique to prosper within diverse and sustainable local economies, and vibrant communities.
At MICAIA we understand that for most people ‘prosperity’ has economic, social, cultural, environmental and spiritual dimensions. MICAIA Foundation is working with local people in Manica Province, Mozambique to address all of these dimensions, aiming over time to show that there is an alternative path to a more rounded, meaningful ‘prosperity’.
Eco-MICAIA’s role in the MICAIA family is to help communities and local people gain better access to local markets and to secure a stake in owning and managing successful enterprises. We also provide mission-related services to funders, investors, NGOs and communities. Our net profits will increasingly help sustain MICAIA Foundation’s core programmes.
Ultimately our aim is to show that community economic development does not have to be about small-scale ‘income generating projects’. Instead it can be about serious investment in viable businesses with potential to grow and to create lasting opportunities for local people.
